Karmelo Anthony, 17, is charged with first-degree m*rder in the April 2 st*bbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The incident happened at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco during a track and field championship attended by multiple schools.

On Wednesday, April 10, Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the teen will not be eligible for capital punishment.
“The Supreme Court has said not only can you not seek the death penalty against someone who committed a crime when they’re 17, you can’t even get them life without parole.”
Willis added.
“That would not be something we could do even if we wanted to.”

Willis also noted that the case has not yet been turned over to his office because police are still investigating. He said he hopes the case stays in Collin County.
“I hope it stays here,” Willis said. “I think our citizens should be the ones to decide it.”

Anthony remains in custody on a $1 million bond. His attorneys are expected to ask for a bond reduction at an upcoming hearing, according to Fox4 News.
