Expert Blames Excess Weight For Jet Set Nightclub Collapse That K*lled 231
The Jet Set nightclub collapse in the Dominican Republic, which k*lled 231 people, was likely triggered by excess weight from equipment and roof modifications, experts say.
Originally a movie theater, the venue had been converted into a music hotspot with “transformers, fans, speakers” and other gear hung from the ceiling, which “wasn’t designed to support” the load, structural engineer Andrik Soto told Noticias SIN.
Eduardo Fernandez Rodriguez added, “If six [layers of concrete] were placed, we’re talking about more than 500,000 additional kilos… as if they put the weight of 6,000 people on the roof.”
Both experts emphasized their analysis is speculative, based on debris. Singer Sergio Vargas recalled warning signs, saying, “I saw the employees sweeping up the debris. They told me it was normal, that sometimes pieces of the ceiling fell.”
Among the dead were MLB stars Tony Blanco, Octavio Dotel, Nelsy Cruz, and beloved singer Rubby Perez.
