In a new interview with TIME, the tennis icon revealed that she wanted to ask Taylor Swift for an autograph during this year’s Super Bowl, but chose not to once she saw how the game was going.

“I was like, ‘Not today. It’s hard when your team is losing,’” Serena said. She shared that her daughter, Olympia, is a big fan of Taylor, and she had hoped to surprise her with a signature. But with the Kansas City Chiefs trailing behind, Serena decided to give Taylor some space.

She also reacted to Swift being booed during the game at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. “That was awful,” Serena said.

With Serena performing alongside Kendrick Lamar during “Not Like Us” and Taylor in the crowd, some fans were curious if the longtime friends might share a public moment.
If you were Serena, would you have secured an autograph no matter what the scoreboard said?
