Damon Wayans’ Family Sitcom ‘Poppa’s House’ Canceled After One Season
Sad news for fans of Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.’s new show, Poppa’s House.
Reports confirm that CBS has officially axed the family sitcom starring the father-son duo after just one season. The network announced the decision earlier today, April 22, with the show’s final episode set to air later this month.
Poppa’s House premiered back in October and follows Damon Wayans as a legendary talk radio host, “Poppa,” navigating life with his adult son, Junior, played by his real-life son, Damon Wayans Jr.
The show also stars Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson. Despite receiving a full-season order in November 2024, the series was not renewed for a second season.

While CBS did not provide a specific reason for the cancellation, reports suggest that budget considerations and viewership ratings played a role. According to Deadline, the show was asked to reduce its budget for renewal consideration.
The short-lived series featured several notable guest stars, including Marlon Wayans, who played Poppa’s brother, Melvin, as well as appearances from Lamorne Morris, Vivica A. Fox, and Tommy Davidson. The involvement of the Wayans family, both on-screen and behind the scenes, was a highlight of the series.
The series finale, titled “Magic Shine Again,” will air on April 28, 2025, at 8:30 PM ET/PT on CBS.
As of now, no one connected to the show has addressed the cancellation publicly. Fans can catch the final episode on CBS or stream it on Paramount+.
