Terrence Howard Says He Couldn’t Play Marvin Gaye After Quincy Jones Allegedly Confirmed To Him That The Singer Was Gay: ‘I Don’t Fake It’
Terrence Howard is opening up about where he draws the line when it comes to certain roles.
During an appearance on the Club Random podcast with Bill Maher, the actor revealed he once turned down playing Smokey Robinson in a biopic because he was already working with Lee Daniels on a potential Marvin Gaye project. However, things took a turn after Quincy Jones allegedly confirmed to Howard that Marvin Gaye was gay.

“I could not,” Howard said, explaining why he ultimately felt he wouldn’t be able to play Marvin Gaye. “They would’ve wanted to do that, and I wouldn’t have been able to do that. No, ’cause I don’t fake it.”
He continued,
“I can’t play that character 100%. I can’t surrender myself to a place that I don’t understand.”
Howard concluded by saying that if other actors don’t mind doing that, it’s fine with him, but added, “Just don’t aim it at me.”
In the end, it seems that Howard didn’t have much to worry about, as both projects never came to fruition.
