Robert De Niro’s Daughter Airyn Comes Out As Trans, Reveals She Began Hormone Therapy & Credits Black Women As A Major Inspiration

Robert De Niro’s daughter Airyn has come out as trans.

In a new interview with Them, the 29-year-old actress and model opened up about “stepping into this new identity,” revealing that she began hormone therapy in November and credited her mom and “the influence Black women have had on me” as major inspirations.

Reflecting on her identity, Airyn spoke about the difference between being visible and truly being seen.

“There’s a difference between being visible and being seen,” she said. “I’ve been visible. I don’t think I’ve been seen yet.”

Airyn, who is one of De Niro’s seven children and the daughter of actress Toukie Smith, also addressed being labeled a “nepo baby,” saying,

“I wasn’t brought up having a side part in one of dad’s movies or going to business meetings or attending premieres. My dad was very big on us finding our own sort of path… I would want [success] to happen on my own merit.”

Now, Airyn hopes to be a voice for others like her:

“I’d want to hopefully be an inspiration for at least one other person like me who is Black, who is queer, who’s not a size extra small. I’d want to see more trans women, more Black women who are maybe bigger-bodied or don’t fit the mold of super thin or heroin chic.”

Good for her! Share your thoughts below.
