Shaboozey Side-Eyes Singer Megan Moroney For Saying 1920s Folk Group The Carter Family ‘Basically Invented Country Music’

Shaboozey Side-Eyes Singer Megan Moroney For Saying 1920s Folk Group The Carter Family ‘Basically Invented Country Music’
Shaboozey clearly wasn’t feeling fellow singer Megan Moroney’s hot take during the 2025 American Music Awards.
While the two presented the award for Favorite Country Duo or Group, Shaboozey couldn’t help but throw a shady side-eye after Megan claimed that 1920s folk group The Carter Family “basically invented country music.”
In response, Shaboozey let out a quick laugh before continuing to read from the teleprompter. As the clip continues to go viral, many fans are weighing in on Megan’s comment and questioning its historical accuracy. One X user even asked the platform’s AI chatbot, Grok, who shot down the idea, writing:
“The Carter Family didn’t invent country music but were key in popularizing it through their 1920s Bristol Sessions recordings. Country music has diverse roots, including Appalachian folk and African-American blues, predating their work. The claim oversimplifies the genre’s complex origins.”

According to the Country Music Hall of Fame, while The Carter Family was nicknamed “The First Family of Country Music,” and among the first vocal groups to become country stars, they were heavily influenced by African-American musicians like Lesley Riddle and Duford Black, the first Black American to play on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
Riddle reportedly met the Carter Family in 1928 and either composed or transmitted several hit songs for them, including “Cannonball Blues,” “Hello Stranger,” and “Lonesome for You.”
What are your thoughts on Shaboozey’s reaction to Megan’s claim?
