Actor Brandon Hammond Reunites w/ ‘Soul Food’ Co-Star Irma P. Hall (Big Mama) 20 Years After The Classic Film: ‘Her Hugs & Smile Were As I Remember’
Brandon Hammond, who played Ahmad in 1997’s “Soul Food,” marked Irma P. Hall’s 90th birthday by sharing a heartfelt tribute and rare reunion photos with his on-screen grandmother, “Big Mama.”
“Happy 90th Birthday to the LEGENDARY Ms. Irma P. Hall!” he wrote on Instagram, adding, “Irma’s career is nothing short of ICONIC.”
Hammond revealed the two hadn’t seen each other in nearly 20 years before reconnecting a few years ago while he was filming a “Soul Food Reunion” documentary.
“Her hugs and smile were as I remember them,” he shared. “We even sat at the table for a nice soul food-esque dinner.”
Though they’d worked together again briefly, this was their first adult reunion.
“It feels like Irma’s presence in my life fits all three categories: reason, season, and lifetime,” Hammond reflected. “I am eternally grateful to know her.”
