Kendrick Lamar Inspires New Temple University Course Exploring His Lyrics, Legacy & Cultural Roots
Temple University has introduced a new course titled “Kendrick Lamar and the Morale of the M.A.A.D. City,” taught by Assistant Professor Timothy Welbeck from the Africology and African American Studies department.
The course will explore Lamar’s discography through an Afrocentric lens, examining how his Compton upbringing and social policies shaped his perspective. Students will also analyze his impact on West Coast hip-hop and the musical traditions he draws from.
The course highlights Lamar’s lyrical depth, cultural significance, and lasting legacy as one of the most influential voices in modern music.
