R. Kelly Seeks To Disqualify Entire Chicago Federal Prosecutor’s Office From His Case, Cites Alleged Misconduct & Claims Of A M*rder Plot In Prison
R. Kelly is calling for the removal of the entire Chicago U.S. Attorney’s Office from his federal case, accusing them of misconduct and bias that he says make a fair trial impossible.
In a new court motion shared by AllHipHop, Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, claimed at least one former prosecutor may have committed “serious malfeasance” and argued that others in the office “may be similarly compromised.” He added, “Every single AUSA who worked on the investigation or prosecution of this case has a personal interest in the outcome.”
Brindley insists the office cannot investigate itself, stating that doing so would violate Justice Department rules and “public trust.” He wants prosecutors from another district or from D.C. to take over.
“This is not an R. Kelly production,” Brindley wrote. “This is what they are doing to him as these words are being written.”
The court has not yet issued a ruling on the motion. However, they recently denied his bid for home confinement.
