Trump Announces $200 Million Gold-Adorned White House Ballroom To Replace East Wing Event Space
Donald Trump has announced a $200 million renovation to expand the White House’s East Wing into a grand new ballroom.
In a July 31 press release, the White House described the 90,000-square-foot addition as a “much-needed and exquisite” space, designed to host 650 guests.
“The White House Ballroom will be substantially separated from the main building of the White House, but at the same time, its theme and architectural heritage will be almost identical,” the release stated. Architectural renderings reveal gold chandeliers, ornate ceilings, Greek columns, and arched windows.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt called the project a way to “modernize” the East Wing. Currently used by the first lady’s staff, that office space will be temporarily relocated.
Funded by Trump and private donors, construction begins in September. Architect Jim McCrery called it “a beautiful and necessary renovation to The People’s House.” No completion date has been announced.
