Former CNN Correspondent Jim Acosta Faces Backlash For Interviewing Al Version Of Parkland Victim Joaquin Oliver: ‘It’s Weird & Icky’
Jim Acosta is catching heat for a recent interview with an AI recreation of Joaquin Oliver, one of the students killed in the 2018 Parkland school shooting.
During the sit-down, the former CNN correspondent asked the AI recreation for its solution to gun violence, prompting a response that included stronger gun control laws, increased mental health support, and greater community engagement.

Acosta explained that the avatar was created by Joaquin’s parents and that his father, Manuel Oliver, invited him to be the first journalist to speak with it as part of a push to demand action on g*n reform.
However, many online were not feeling the interview. One person wrote, “Interviewing an AI of a dead kid who died in an horrific human tragedy even with their parents’ permission feels pretty weird?” Another added, “No matter how Acosta and the dad try to justify this, it’s weird and icky. Acosta never should have agreed to interview an AI creation.”
