Jennifer Aniston Says ‘Friends’ Cast Mourned Matthew Perry Long Before He Passed Due To His Addiction Battle: ‘I’m Glad He’s Out Of That Pain’
Jennifer Aniston is opening up about how painful a loved one’s addiction problem can truly be.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Jennifer touched on co-star Matthew Perry’s substance abuse and 2023 passing, sharing:
“We did everything we could when we could, but it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”

As reported, nearly two years ago, Matthew was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. An autopsy report later revealed he died from the “acute effects” of ketamine. Before his passing, Matthew had been candid about his years-long addiction battle. He had also been struggling with anxiety and was receiving ketamine-assisted psychotherapy sessions to cope. Five individuals (Matthew’s personal assistant, two doctors, and two alleged drug dealers) are facing charges related to the accidental drug overdose.
