Actor Darius McCrary Appointed Public Defender After Trying To Represent Himself & Appearing Confused During Court Hearing
Darius McCrary appeared visibly disoriented during his first court appearance since his October 5 arrest on a Michigan child support warrant.
The “Family Matters” star attempted to represent himself at his arraignment in San Diego but repeatedly baffled the judge by insisting he was there on a “special appearance.”
When asked who he was “specially appearing” for, McCrary responded, “Specially appearing for Darius McCrary. I’m here. I’m here.”
After observing his inability to grasp the legal process, the judge appointed a public defender, explaining McCrary “is unable to understand and appreciate the legalities of these proceedings.” Despite this, McCrary still argued for bail, though prosecutors successfully opposed his request.
By the end of the hearing, McCrary agreed to be extradited to Michigan, where authorities now have 30 days to retrieve him from San Diego County Jail.
