TikTok Star Brenay Kennard Says ‘Husband-Stealing’ Lawsuit Ruined Her Income As Judge Delays $1.75 Million Payment
A North Carolina judge is giving a viral TikTok creator temporary financial relief in a headline-making “husband-stealing” lawsuit.
Social media influencer Brenay Kennard has been allowed to pause paying a $1.75 million judgment awarded to Akira Montague while she appeals the case. The ruling stems from a 2025 decision that found Kennard liable for alienation of affection and criminal conversation tied to her relationship with Montague’s now ex-husband, Timothy Montague.
To secure the pause, the court ordered Kennard to post a $40,000 undertaking while the appeal moves forward.
During testimony, Kennard said the lawsuit damaged her brand partnerships and income, revealing, “People make a video about me every day… It never stops.” She also claimed online backlash and legal fees have significantly impacted her finances.
Montague, meanwhile, testified she is facing financial strain of her own, stating she is roughly $100,000 in debt, largely due to attorney fees.
Judge Hoyt Tessener acknowledged the role of online attention in the case, noting, “But bad publicity is better than no publicity,” before urging both sides to de-escalate their public feud, adding, “Please stop.”
Should she have to pay the full amount?
