Morris Chestnut’s ‘Watson’ Canceled After 2 Seasons + CBS Also Boots ‘DMV’ After Short Run
CBS is clearing space on its lineup, officially pulling the plug on both “Watson” and “DMV” after short runs on the network.
Watson premiered in January 2025 and is set to wrap with its second season. The series starred Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson in a reimagined Sherlock Holmes universe, where he “turn[s] his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries.” The show followed Watson and his team as they investigated rare diseases, even after defeating Moriarty. Season 2 introduced a major twist with the return of Sherlock Holmes, forcing Watson to confront a deeply buried secret.
Meanwhile, “DMV” will end after just one season. The workplace comedy, set inside an East Hollywood Department of Motor Vehicles office, centered on a group of eccentric employees navigating chaotic daily interactions. The series followed “Colette (Harriet Dyer), a driving examiner with a big heart and bad boundaries” alongside a quirky ensemble of coworkers.
Both cancellations mark a shift in CBS’ current programming strategy.
