Tyler Perry’s $250K Good Deed Wins + TSA Workers Told They Can Keep Gift Cards After Legal Reversal
A generous act from Tyler Perry is finally ending on a positive note after days of confusion surrounding his $250,000 donation to TSA workers.
Perry donated $250,000 worth of $1,000 gift cards to support TSA employees who have worked without pay for nearly six weeks during the partial government shutdown. Many have struggled to buy groceries, gasoline, and cover expenses for necessities, with some even facing eviction.
A spokesperson confirmed that workers will now be able to keep the funds. They shared they received official notice from DHS/TSA legal teams stating the issue has been resolved and “everything is fine.”
Initially, Perry attempted to hand out cash during a surprise airport visit but was told federal rules prohibited workers from accepting it. His team later returned with gift cards, reportedly approved through proper legal channels and distributed through TSA management.
However, confusion arose when workers were told to return the cards, sparking backlash. Despite that, most of the funds had already been used. About 100 employees returned empty cards, which will now be given back as keepsakes.
TSA sources said the donation was a major morale boost, with one employee calling Perry a “modern day Robbin Hood,” adding the team will always be grateful for his support.
