Turkey Leg Hut Owner Nakia Holmes Fights Back Tears Reflecting On Years Of Public Scrutiny
Nakia Holmes is opening up about the emotional toll that came with building one of Houston’s most talked-about restaurants.
During a recent interview with radio personality Kandi Eastman, the Turkey Leg Hut owner became emotional while reflecting on the years of public scrutiny that surrounded the wildly popular restaurant. Holmes shared that she leaned on prayer and support from her family to help her navigate the constant attention and criticism as Turkey Leg Hut repeatedly found itself at the center of headlines.
Turkey Leg Hut became a national sensation after opening in Houston, attracting celebrity visitors, viral attention and long lines for its signature stuffed turkey legs. However, the restaurant’s rise was also accompanied by years of controversy, lawsuits and legal battles. The once-popular eatery ultimately filed for bankruptcy and closed in 2024.
The restaurant has remained in the news even after its closure. Just this week, Holmes’ ex-husband and former business partner, Lyndell “Lynn” Price, pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy-to-commit-arson charge tied to the 2020 firebombing of Houston nightclub Bar 5015. Prosecutors alleged Price directed others to carry out the attack amid a business dispute. He now faces up to 20 years in federal prison and is scheduled to be sentenced later this year.
Holmes also faced legal troubles of her own in October 2025 when she was arrested and accused of helping then-boyfriend Johnathan Saizon evade authorities while he was wanted on aggravated kidnapping and assault charges. Holmes denied wrongdoing, and a Harris County grand jury later declined to indict her, resulting in the case being dropped.
Despite the setbacks, Holmes appears focused on moving forward. According to the radio station, she is bringing back several fan-favorite dishes for a special Houston pop-up event this weekend, offering supporters a taste of the menu that helped turn Turkey Leg Hut into a cultural phenomenon.
