Whoopi Goldberg Shares Why Knicks Accepting Invitation To Visit The White House Following NBA Championship Win Is A Good Thing
Fans are torn over the Knicks’ upcoming White House visit, but #WhoopiGoldberg says there’s an upside to the invitation.
During Thursday’s (June 18) episode of #TheView, the ladies debated whether #NewYorkKnicks players should visit the White House following the team’s NBA championship win. As reported, team owner James Dolan recently revealed that the Knicks have accepted #DonaldTrump’s invitation, making them the first NBA team to do so during his presidency. While some panelists argued the Knicks should follow the path of previous champions who chose not to attend during Trump’s time in office, Goldberg pushed back on that narrative.
Goldberg passionately argued that every player should go—specifically the Black players—framing it as an opportunity to make a statement. She said she wanted to see them proudly stand in “our house” as a reminder that history cannot be selectively erased, and that their presence as champions would send a powerful message to kids that “nobody can keep you down.” At this time, it’s unclear whether players will individually opt out of the visit.
