India Arie Says No Record Label Exec Who Is Dominant In This Business Is Ethical’ As She Reflects On Working Relationship With Clive Davis Following His De@th
Clive Davis’ passing is already sparking debate about the legacy he leaves behind.
Singer #IndiaArie is among those not shying away from addressing the music mogul’s controversies and alleged treatment of artists. Taking to Threads, India reacted to the news of his de@th, writing, “Watch what kind of archival interviews are about to come out. I would tell my story too, but mine is minimal compared to what you’re about to hear.” She continued with what she called the “diplomatic version” of her experience, adding, “LOL! everyone saying speak and tell my story. I’ve shared bits here and there. I sincerely have far worse stories than the little irritation that was caused by Clive Davis.”
After noting that Kedar Massenburg was the only record label executive she’s worked with who was “actually a decent person,” India.Arie made her stance crystal clear: “THE POINT I’M MAKING IS: THAT NO RECORD LABEL EXECUTIVE WHO IS DOMINANT IN THIS BUSINESS IS ETHICAL.” #ClivDavis d!ed on June 22 at the age of 94.
If India.Arie’s words are any indication, more voices may soon come forward with stories of their own.
