Gunna Praises His Breakout Hit “Drip Too Hard” w/ Lil Baby Despite Their Broken Relationship: ‘It Was A Good Combination’
Gunna is looking back on the chemistry that helped turn his collaboration with Lil Baby into one of their biggest records.
During Billboard’s Chart History interview, the Atlanta rapper revisited the making of “Drip Too Hard,” the breakout single from their 2018 joint project, “Drip Harder.”
“That song was a no-brainer,” Gunna said, explaining that producer Turbo supplied the beat while Lil Baby had already started recording. “Baby started on this motherf*cker and then, once I heard it, lemme do my part,” he recalled.
According to Gunna, neither rapper needed an elaborate plan because their creative rhythm developed naturally in the booth.
“We kinda just bouncing off of each other,” he explained. “It was already written, just the whole song of us together. It was a good combination, collaboration.”
The reflection comes years after their friendship reportedly unraveled. Following Gunna’s December 2022 Alford plea in the YSL RICO case, several artists questioned his loyalty despite his denial that he cooperated against Young Thug.
Lil Baby later said the two had “no relationship” and ruled out another collaboration. Still, Gunna’s comments gave his partner credit for the chemistry they once shared.
