Lauryn Hill & Wyclef Jean Say Fans Can ‘Absolutely’ Expect New Music

Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean are looking toward the future — and it could include new music.

The longtime Fugees bandmates recently opened up about where they stand creatively, revealing that their renewed relationship has sparked conversations about making music together again. When asked whether fans could expect new material in the future, Hill told BBC, “Absolutely.”

Wyclef added that the pair are currently in a positive space, saying, “All I can tell you is, man, we’re in God’s hands.” He continued, “We’re in an amazing place. I think the energy is very important.”

Hill also revealed that getting to this point involved some healing between the bandmates.

“There was an incredible healing process that happened with us as a band and as bandmates,” she said, adding that they now want to share some of that renewed energy with the world.

The comments come as Hill and Wyclef celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fugees’ landmark 1996 album, The Score. The pair are set to perform the album in full during Hill’s Diaspora Calling! festival in the U.K. The project produced classics including “Ready or Not,” “Fu-Gee-La” and “Killing Me Softly.”

While Hill and Wyclef appear ready to create again, they stopped short of confirming that a new album is officially underway. Still, their comments mark a significant development for fans: the Fugees have not released a studio album since The Score three decades ago.
