Comedian & Radio Personality Jess Hilarious Admits To Stealing A Fellow Comedian’s Joke Early In Her Career

Jess Hilarious is opening up about a lesson she learned the hard way during the early days of her comedy career.

During an appearance on the @djquicksilva ‘s podcast the comedian and “The Breakfast Club” co-host admitted that she once stole a joke from fellow Baltimore comedian Tiana Douglas. Jess explained that at the time, she didn’t fully understand the seriousness of taking another comedian’s material and thought she could simply put her own spin on it.

“I took her joke, and I put a little Jess on it,” Jess recalled, before acknowledging, “That was bad.” She said comedian Larry Lancaster later confronted her about the situation and helped her understand that stealing material was a major violation in the comedy world.

Jess also apologized directly to Douglas during the conversation, saying the experience taught her an important lesson early in her career. She added that she has since had other comedians take her material and views those experiences as “karma” for what she did years ago.

Jess, who built a following through stand-up comedy and social media before becoming a nationally syndicated radio personality, said the incident ultimately helped shape how she approached comedy moving forward.
