NFL Star Jalen Hurts Diagnosed With Blood Clot In His Leg, Sidelined Indefinitely
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is facing a serious health setback after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg.
The 28-year-old NFL star has been placed on injured reserve after doctors discovered a superficial blood clot in his left calf. According to TMZ, the Eagles made the decision Saturday (Oct. 17), meaning Hurts will miss at least four games. Although the condition is reportedly treatable, there is currently no confirmed timeline for his return.
The health scare reportedly began after Hurts was kicked in the calf during the Eagles’ October 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He initially continued practicing and was cleared to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. However, a follow-up ultrasound revealed that the clot had moved, prompting doctors to recommend further evaluation and treatment.
In an official statement, the Eagles explained that their medical staff had been closely monitoring the situation, adding:
“Jalen will be out for Sunday’s game vs. the Panthers as we determine the appropriate course of treatment. His health and safety are our highest priority.”
The diagnosis comes during a challenging stretch for Philadelphia, which has started the season with a 2-3 record. Hurts, a Super Bowl champion and three-time Pro Bowl quarterback, has thrown for 933 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee is expected to lead the offense while Hurts focuses on his recovery.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni also emphasized the organization’s concern for its star quarterback, saying:
“Jalen’s health is of the utmost importance to all of us in this building.”
Hurts will be eligible to return as early as Week 11 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, although his actual return will depend on his recovery and medical clearance.
