Stephen A. Smith Apologizes To Teyana Taylor & Iman Shumpert, Admits His Claims About Their Divorce Settlement Were False
Sports commentator Stephen A. Smith is publicly apologizing to Teyana Taylor and her ex-husband, former NBA player Iman Shumpert, after acknowledging that he shared inaccurate information about their divorce settlement.
During an October episode of The Culture Table, Stephen claimed Teyana walked away from the marriage with $25 million, an additional $10 million in properties, luxury vehicles and other assets. He also claimed Iman was left with approximately $2 million and nowhere to live.
Stephen has since walked back those statements, saying:
“Those statements were inaccurate, and I want to sincerely apologize to both Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor.”
He also acknowledged that quotes he previously attributed to Iman were not authentic, explaining:
“The quotes attributed to him, however, were not his statements at all, and the financial figures presented were inaccurate.”
Stephen said he personally spoke with Teyana, who confirmed the circulating information was false. Taking responsibility for the mistake, he added:
“Straight Shooter Media and I, as the CEO, have a responsibility to ensure that information presented is properly sourced. We didn’t meet that standard here. Plain and simple.”
He concluded by confirming that he had personally apologized to both parties.
What are your thoughts on Stephen A. Smith publicly correcting the record?
