Terrence Howard Says Barbara Bush Cried While Watching ‘Red Tails’ With Him

Over the weekend, Terrence Howard made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel to talk about his new film ‘Red Tails’. Stylistically (which I sorta think isn’t a word, but hell, spell check didn’t catch it), the usually dapper actor didn’t disappoint, rockin’ a fancy tailored suit and his hair slicked back. During the interview, Howard revealed that two presidents expressed an interest in seeing his film and he even attended a screening with former President George H.W. Bush.
“Barbra was right next to us. It was like we were family….The lights go off and he’s watching and after about 20 minutes I touched him to make sure he was ok, but he was just so into it. By the end of the movie, his wife was crying.”
Howard also revealed that he had first learned of the Tuskegee Airmen at a young age from his father who was ‘Afrocentric’ and a former member of the Black Panther Party.
Howard said,
“He always taught us about it as kids, so we heard about the black people flying the planes and supposedly saving the world.”
Howard later explained that he started to believe his dad’s stories about the Tuskegee Airmen when he was 13 and tried to steal a pair of argyle socks. While riding in the back of a police car, he said the sergeant told him that if a Black man did what he had just done in the 1940’s, they would not be allowed to serve as a Tuskegee Airman. According to Howard, that’s when his father’s stories of the Tuskegee Airmen set in.
