Remembering Nick Ashford of Ashford & Simpson

At the age of 70, Nick Ashford (of the group Ashford & Simpson) has passed. According to his publicist, he died in a New York City hospital, as he had been suffering from throat cancer and had undergone radiation treatment. Nick and his wife (Valerie Simpson) formed the group Ashford & Simpson, and had been well known for performing and penning classic Motown hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Reach Out And Touch Somebody’s Hand” by Diana Ross, and “You’re All I Need To Get By” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. They also wrote Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” and became well-known with their hit, “Solid As A Rock.” The couple had been married for 38 years.
