A 2-Year-Old Boy Is Among 25 Storm-Related Fatalities Due To Hurricane Ida Hitting The East Coast
According to reports, a toddler was among 25 people that tragically died as a result of Hurricane Ida hitting the east coast. Reports claim that a 2-year-old boy, 4 women, and 3 men died in five separate flooding incidents that occurred in New York. According to the New York Police Department Commissioner, all 8 of the victims lived in Queens and died in the basements of residential homes. A 9th unnamed person was also confirmed to be dead due to the storm.
New York City’s Mayor Bill de Blasio, released a statement on the multiple fatalities and said,
“Our hearts ache for the lives lost in last night’s storm. Please keep them and their loved ones in your thoughts today. They were our fellow New Yorkers and to their families, your city will be there for you in the days ahead.”
According to reports, 13 deaths were reported in New Jersey, including 4 residents at the Oakwood Plaza Apartments complex in Elizabeth and 1 person whose body was recovered in Passaic.
Reports also claim that there were at least 3 storm-related deaths in the Philadelphia suburb of Montgomery County. Details on these deaths have yet to be released.
Both New York and New Jersey have declared a state of emergency because of the severe weather the states are currently facing.
