First Lady Michelle Obama Tells Spelman Graduates, “Return the favor.”
Sunday, May 15th, First Lady Michelle Obama spoke at Spelman’s 124th Commencement ceremony with more than 500 graduates and 9,000 attendees. The graduation took place at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. Actresses Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad, who are sisters, also received honorary degrees, along with Wendy Kopp (CEO of Teach for America), who received the National Community Service Award. The first lady told the audience, “Now it’s your turn to repay the favor. It is vitally important that you all rise to the highest ranks of every industry and every profession.
