Young Jeezy Confesses, “I couldn’t speak for 7 months” + Plans for the Big Screen
While in DC, rapper Young Jeezy (real name Jay Wayne Jenkins), had an interview with WPGC’s Aladdin. Peep a few excerpts where Jeezy talks d*mn near losing his voice, recovery and plans to hit the big screen.
On an issue he had with his vocal chord(s):
” I tore my vocal chords because I was doing a lot of yelling at my shows and it kind of took me off my grind for like a year because I couldn’t speak for 7 months, and I had surgery and it took me another 3 months to learn how to speak again… Imagine laying in your bed not knowing if you gon be able to what you do. The whole world talking and you gotta lay low, there isn’t much you can say…”
His recovery process:
“It was a process because you know I’m in a house full of cats and I had to get a vocal coach so I had to hum some things and sing some things and that ain’t what you wanna do in front of your homeboys while you tryna warm up and get your voice back. So it was a little difficult, but I kinda thugged my way through it and it worked out.”
On a possible acting career:
“Yea, I’ve been out LA back and forth with my person that handles that and I’ve been doing a lot of reading. It’s something new but I’ve been in front of the camera so long, even when I was younger I had some star qualities. But I think it’s something I really wanna do ’cause I’m one of them cats that like to conquer things so I feel like I’ve done a lot of music and I’m not planning on slowing down on music by the way but I just kinda wanna venture off and do some other things and see if I can be great in that as well.”
