Robin Roberts Announces Leave of Absence, Starting Bone Marrow Transplant

Sad news for fans of Robin Roberts and Good Morning America. Earlier this year, Robin announced that she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). And Monday morning, she confirmed that her GMA medical leave will begin on Friday, so that she can undergo bone marrow transplant surgery. This week, the show will celebrate “Robin’s journey.” Robin explained on air:
“I’ll begin the process…It still takes about 10 days after being admitted because there are some things you have to go through before the (bone marrow) transplant actually occurs.”
She also confirmed news that she’s found a match:
“[She] is a perfect match and she’s been spending a lot of time with me. She’s been taking shots to help her prepare.”
Stay tuned and let’s continue to keep Robin in our thoughts and prayers. [USA Today]
