Five New Things We Learned About Singer Frank Ocean

Before reading this article, there was very little we knew about Frank Ocean (born Christopher Breaux ). The 25-year-old New Orleans native hopped on the scene in 2011…and we heard more buzz surrounding his name, when he came ‘out’ (although we aren’t sure that’s the appropriate title) back in 2012, days before his Channel Orange album hit shelves. Then, fast forward to two weeks ago…again, his name hit the ‘net. This time Chris Brown and Ocean got into a nasty fight in the parking lot of a recording studio. Ocean decided NOT to press charges (after Chris was cited as the aggressor) and Brown is back in court again. And in a recent interview with the New York Times, Frank revealed even more insight about who he really is behind the music, tweets and dope tumblr image. Peep our new five favorite and/or interesting things about Ocean.

1.  He doesn’t like journalists:

“All in all, I just don’t trust journalists — and I don’t think it’s a good practice for me to trust journalists.”
2. He says it like it is:
“Image is so important, that’s why you’ve got to practice brevity when you do interviews… I could try to make myself likable to you so you could write a piece that keeps my image in good standing, because I’m still selling this, or I could just say, ‘My art speaks for itself.’”
3. He basically tells his record company what to do and not vice versa:

“They learned a long time ago they can’t really tell me what to do. I don’t like the idea of there being somebody who could      break me. There’s no head of a label right now who could break me.”

Also…

4. He takes piano and music-theory lessons every morning except Sundays.

5. He is heading to Shanghai, China after the Grammys and is planning to

“write in remote locations for the next two years.”

And there ya have it! The quick and dirty on Frank Ocean. Now let’s see how he comes out this Grammy’s weekend.
