Malcolm-Jamal Warner Talks Break-Up with Regina King: ‘Our break-up got more coverage than our being together.’

Last March, some of us were shocked to learn that actress Regina King and Malcolm Jamal Warner had ended their romantic relationship. For starters, most of us had no clue that the two were even together. According to the NY Daily News, Warner brought their relationship to a halt asking King and her young son from a previous marriage to move out of the house they shared. The recent breakup definitely made the Theo Huxtable character from the 1980s hit sitcom “The Cosby Show”, seem quite dirty in the deal. Whether the breakup was messy or not, the way they met was almost picture perfect as Regina recalls in an Essence interview in January 2011 sharing:

 Malcolm and I have a lot in common,we’ve both been child actors and were also blessed to be raised by incredible mothers who instilled good values in us. Things are maturing nicely.

She and Warner have always remained low key on the details of their relationship with Warner sharing,

We like to protect what we have because it’s very special and very precious . . . But I will say that it’s a relationship that makes all the sense in the world.

Up until now, the ex-couple have remained mum about calling it quits after 2 plus years. Initially, when the news broke, Regina commented via Twitter,

Everybody PLEASE don’t believe everything you read. Me & @MalcolmJamalWar are good. Life happens.Forward motion. Godspeed

And recently, Malcolm shared a bit of insight on their relationship, telling Sister 2 Sister:

Well, I mean, you try not to date in the spotlight. I think what Regina and I—you know, we had been together for several years before people realized we were together. So unfortunately our breakup got more coverage than our being together, and that kind of sucked ‘cause we spent so much time trying to keep it out of the public eye, and then the breakup was so much in the public eye. So all relationships have their share of obstacles, and you just try not to have yours plastered.

Now the big question is WHAT happened? Neither has shared and doesn’t seem like they will in the near future. There have been UNCONFIRMED reports from Us Weekly “He said he wasn’t feeling it anymore,” and that “she’s still very brokenhearted.”
