[VIDEO] Actress Tatyana Ali Talks Return To Music, Performs New Song On Arsenio Hall Show
After 16 years, actress Tatyana Ali is ready to return to music. After playing Ashley Banks on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, the 35-year-old actress is ready to pursue her vocal chops full throttle. This week, she visited Arsenio Hall explaining that this time around, she’s going independent. She says,
The last time I put music out I was 17 years old, it was a long time ago, my single was ‘Daydreamin’ and ‘Kiss The Sky’ so it’s been a really long time since I’ve done anything musically, but it’s also for the first time, I feel like I’m really able to be myself. So I’m also kinda saying hello to myself. On the EP cover, I’m facing myself its kind a reflection mirror image. The EP is five songs I put it put myself, totally independent independent not independent label independent, its like an introduction.
Tatyana, along with many TV fans, are still mourning the death of James Avery. Avery passed away from complications of heart surgery in late 2013. Ali explained,
The outpouring from fans on Facebook and Twitter and on the news it just meant so much to people that loved him and his family. So I would say for everybody..thank you for that. People say he was the best TV dad ever to go down in history and it’s true. I think its important that people know that that’s not a mistake. Everything he did as Uncle Phil, he had so much integrity as an artist and an actor and humanitarian, he knew exactly what he was doing and he’s gonna be the greatest TV dad in history on purpose. He was an amazing teacher to me.
She also performed her new song, ‘Wait On It’ with the sales of the single benefitting Black Girls Rock camp. Peep the performance and interview below.
