[Listen] Drakes Comment About Jay Z’s Spending Habits Ignites Potential Hip Hop Beef
All it takes is one line to spark a beef in hip-hop. Just ask Jay Z (44) and Drake (27). Here’s the quick and dirty. Over the weekend, Jay Electronica released a remix to Drake and Soulja Boy’s hit, ‘We Made It‘. He recruited Mr. Carter for the track and there’s one line in particular that takes aim at Drizzy. Instead of the usual subliminal lyrics, Jay calls Drake by name when he rhymes:
Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk/ Silly me rappin’ ’bout shit that I really bought/ Why these rappers rap about guns they ain’t shot?/ And a bunch of other silly shit that they ain’t got.
This line in particular is in reference to an interview that Drake did with Rolling Stone. Specifically, Drake comments about Jay Z mixing his love of art, with hip-hop. Drake was quoted as saying:
It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references! I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.
Our guess is that Mr. Carter caught wind of it and decided to address it.
Take a listen below.
On a more positive note, Jay also bigs up Oscar-Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. He rhymes:
I’m on my Lupita Nyong’o
Stuntin’ on stage, got the 12 Years A Slave
This Ace of Spades look like an Oscar
Anywho, we’ll wait for Drizzy’s response.
