Not True! Aretha Franklin Denies Getting Into Physical Brawl With Patti Labelle

We actually heard about this story, but decided not to share it, as it sounded a bit far fetched. Over the weekend, an interesting rumor hit surrounding two legendary soul singers. Allegedly, Patti LaBelle was arrested and charged with assault for trying to hit Aretha Franklin. News Nerd, a satire like web site, gave a detailed account of the two meeting in Atlanta at a concert, where Patti gave Franklin “a Mayweather style right and left” that caused the singer to stumble and fall, “landing awkwardly.” The site added that Patti was arrested and had a court date this week. It all stemmed from some supposed shade Franklin threw LaBelle’s way last month at a White House concert.

In News Nerd’s defense, at the end of the article, it noted that the story was false. Welp, some folk missed that part (or either missed reporting it) and the story ran, literally. Aretha caught wind of the fake story and put an end to it, releasing the following statement:
