[Photos] Tyra Banks Hosts Annual ‘Flawsome Ball’
Last night (May 6), Tyra Banks hosted her second annual TZONE Foundation Flawsome Ball. Held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, Tyra partnered with the Lower Eastside Girls Center for Community for the annual event. In attendance were Chrissy Teigen, Padma Lakshmi and model Damaris Lewis.
The 40-year-old former super model tells People: “Flaws are awesome – so, ‘flawsome!’ I love making up a word.” She shares that she knows the pain of being called “too fat,” revealing that she was once teased for being “too thin.”
The summer I turned 11 years old, I lost 30 lbs. and I had a growth spurt. And it wasn’t even supermodel thin. It was more than that. Some people thought I had an eating disorder.
She continued,
There was nothing I could do to gain weight. It was in the 1980s during the Ethiopian famine, and I got a lot of comments. I was poked with a lot of needles to see what was wrong with me. I was even misdiagnosed with gigantism.
Tyra is using this experience to celebrate young girls and women to celebrate what society pegs as unattractive. Check out a few photos from the event.
