Poet Maya Angelou Dies At Age 86
Extremely sad news. According to numerous reports, poet and writer Dr. Maya Angelou has died. Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines told WFMY News 2 that Angelou’s caregiver found her dead in her home Wednesday morning. She is best known for her award-winning writing, including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
Last week, Angelou was said to be battling health problems. According to reports, she had canceled a scheduled appearance of a special event to be held in her honor. She was set to receive and be honored with the “Beacon of Life Award” at the 2014 MLB Beacon Award Luncheon to take place in Houston Texas on May 30. She was 86.
