[Photos] Luther Vandross Receives ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’ Honor: Johnny Gill, Lalah Hathaway Attend
Luther Vandross sold over 25 million records worldwide. His hit songs include, “Never Too Much,” “Here and Now,” “Any Love,” “Power of Love/Love Power,” “I Can Make It Better,” and “For You to Love.” The premier male vocalist; many of his hits were innovative covers of original songs by other artists including “If This World Were Mine” (with Cheryl Lynn), “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Superstar” and “Always and Forever.” Duets included “The Closer I Get to You” with Beyoncé, “Endless Love” with Mariah Carey and “The Best Things in Life Are Free” with Janet Jackson. During his career, Vandross was nominated for a total of 31 Grammy Awards of which he received eight, including “Best Male R&B Vocal Performance” which he won on four different occasions. In 2004 alone, he won four Grammy Awards for “Dance with My Father,” the song recorded not long before his untimely death. Luther Vandross passed away July 1, 2005 at the age of 54.
