Slowly, but surely, celebrities are heading down to Ferguson, Missouri, becoming involved in the protests surrounding the death of Mike Brown. Rapper Nelly (real name Cornell Iral Haynes, Jr. ) is a St. Louis native and from the beginning of the controversial death, has remained vocal about where he stands on the issue.
Yesterday (August 18th), the 39-year-old was in Ferguson, speaking with protestors that had gathered, encouraging them to be peaceful.

According to a few of the Instagram clips, some of the people in attendance disagreed strongly with Nelly’s point of view.

He has to realize that they perceive him differently. You may have been like us long time ago. But, to them he’s different now. You’ve became a celebrity and have accumulated a little wealth. They feel he’s out of touch with what’s going on there. Some people may think that he doesn’t have the same problems with Police because he’s rich. They may feel like you don’t live here anymore, you can’t tell us what to do.They may feel he’s being judgemental and preachy.People sometimes ignore what you have to say,if they feel criticized.
Sorry,too many “they feel”lol
People arent listening to him because they arent listening. they are to busy being mad, and everyone knows you can be angry and comprehensive at the same time.
if black people wont listen to successful black people with different (progressive views) i guess its up to the emotional preacher to get everyone juiced up for a war we cannot win, at least this way. Nelly had great points, why do you have your kids in the streets like this. Why are we marching like its 1960, and its 2014. The government wants this, it loves this.
And who is he to listen to?Oh,he’s the progressive thinking guy, that thought it was a good idea to swipe a credit card between a woman’s butt checks. He wouldn’t apologize for that.It didn’t matter how many times people though he should. He’s in no position to tell anybody anything. It’s a different situation. But,the point is not everyone thinks we should be protesting ,but they’re doing what they have to do to make a change. When they marched in the “streets”during the 60s, those young people were somebody’s kids.
Yes they were and the sad part is 1960 and 2014 are looking exactly alike. Our potus does not care and neither do the celebs that are kept rich and relevant by the same people protesting and getting gunned down. I hope/wish black America wakes up and stop supporting these people who only care when an album or an election is coming.
Nelly like the potus are only making a comment because the public has put them in a pressure cooker. potus was too busy talking about Robin Williams to give a damn about Mike Brown or the 4 other unarmed black men that were killed within the last 30 days or less by the HOGS and Nelly was cooning on IG/Twitter with a Cheerios box. These people see them for what they are fakes and nobody is going to listen to or respect a fake, when our husbands, brothers and sons are being shot down like dogs.
Sunni what have you done to make things better. Have you marched or donated to the UNCF? Stop hating on celebrities and Politicians and do something to make a difference.
