Beyonce Covers Mahalia Jackson’s ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord’, Amidst Ledisi Controversy [VIDEO]

What I will say and what I’m excited about is that I had the pleasure of playing an iconic figure in Selma, and the song, ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord,’ it’s been going on forever – starting with the queen Mahalia [Jackson], the queen of soul Aretha Franklin.

She continued:

Then, I was able to portray and sing my version of the song, and now we have Beyonce. Her generation will now know the song, so I’m a part of history.

John Legend, shed light on the situation, stating that Beyonce approached them about singing the song:

We were actually approached by Beyonce. She wanted to do an intro to our performance and introduce us. You don’t really say no to Beyonce if she asks to perform with you.

Listen to Ledisi’s version below.

I don’t know why you can’t say no to Beyonce. I’m sure she doesn’t say yes to everyone. IMO: A more soulful voice would have fit that song better. She did not do that song justice.

          Correction:
I co-sign (double) too. She cannot sing that song better than Ledisi!! Her rendition was the pits – – all those “long-runs” from back in Destiny Child. Then at the end – -she holding up her hand as if she did something. She would have done better dancing across the stage. …

Just a side note The three year old daughter was not up late. The show is recorded earlier that day. West coast never gets a live feed.

Yeah, the show was recorded on Pacific Standard Time.

Ledisi offered up such a graceful response when asked about this “alleged Precious Lord REMIX debacle”. If Ledisi could give 0 cares about this then that should settle it.

I totally agree if Ledisi is not making a big deal of it then it should be done. Sometimes the media puts to much emphasis on things the actual person doesn’t really care about.

Ledisi did this better. Learn to say “No” to Beyoncé because Ledisi was the better fit/voice for that song.
