[UPDATE]: Jay Z Accused of Stiffing Artist Marina Abramovic: He completely used me. [VIDEO]
If she ever was, Marina Abramovic is no longer a fan of Jay Z. Known for her work as a performance artist, some of us (*raises hand*) discovered her after she was featured in Jay Z’s “Picasso Baby” video.
The shoot for the video — went down in 2010 at the Pace Gallery– and was an entertaining six hour performance piece. If you’ll recall, the Mark Romanek directed video included a number of famous faces like Wale, Rosie Perez, Michael K. Williams and of course Marina.
Anywho, the concept for the video was inspired by Marina’s 2010 exhibit The Artist Is Present.
According to a recent interview with Spike Magazine, she says that part of the agreement for her inclusion was that she’d receive help with her institute. In fact, a monetary donation from Jay Z to benefit her art institute, was promised according to Roc Nation spokeswoman Jana Fleishman.
However, she says that while she held up her part of the deal, Mr. Carter did not. She tells the magazine:
I am very pissed by this, since he adapted my work only under one condition: that he would help my institute. Which he didn’t. The day before, he came to my office and I gave him an entire power point presentation [sic] and said: okay, you can help me, because I really need help to build this thing. Then he just completely used me. And that wasn’t fair.
