‘Ballers’ Season 1 is HBO’s Most-Watched Comedy Since 2009
Congrats are in order! Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and HBO scored a bonafide hit with its new summer comedy, Ballers. Last week’s, season finale brought in an astounding 1.43 million viewers. According to the Nielsen data, Ballers averaged 8.8 million viewers per week, which ranks them third behind the first season of Hung (9.3 million) and leader Sex and the City (10.3 million) for the all-time list of HBO comedies, and has been named the network’s most-watched comedy in six years.
The 10 episode sports-centered series follows retired NFL-star, Spencer Strasmore (Johnson), as he transitioned from life off the field, to behind the desk as a financial advisor. Spencer can’t stay away from the field too much, because he finds himself working alongside his friends, old teammates, and new sports stars. Each week they all find themselves getting into various sticky situations, where they look to Spencer to get them out trouble. Whether it’s a crazy wife, a party gone wild, or even a groupie with a scandalous video, Spencer always has a solution. The balancing act between his career, personal life and everything in-between is the ultimate problem he has to fix.
