Empire Star Bryshere ‘Yazz’ Gray On Fame & Working With Timberland
In a recent interview with Billboard, Philadelphia rapper/actor Bryshere ‘Yazz’ Gray, opens up about his rise to fame, how his family helped him get through the first season of Empire and writing “Bout to Blow” produced by Timbaland, which will debut on an upcoming episode. Yazz, who plays Hakeem Lyon, is a new comer to acting. Prior to acting he was focused on his music career.
He performed at variety of concerts and music festivals including Made in America, The Roots’ Picnic Festival, and Power 99FM’s Powerhouse and has even opened about for Fabolous and 2 Chainz. Peep a few of our favorite excerpts below.
If “Bout to Blow”, produced by Timbaland, will be on his solo album:
Yeah. This song right here is special, man. You got somebody that’s been in the game a long time and he’s debuting himself on Empire season 2 with Yazz. The song is great. “Bout 2 Blow,” it’s a crazy record that debuts on episode 3. I wrote the record and I feel good about it.
On working with Timbaland:
Yeah. The process was, I was filming for about 18 hours and Timbaland was the studio, making the record. Once I was done filming about 2 o’clock in the morning, I went to the studio and we created a record. Timbaland is so creative — he just laid the beat down and made it easy for me to go in.
