Idris Elba Snags ‘The Dark Tower’ + Stephan James Cast In ‘Shots Fired’
This week, author Stephen King has confirmed the big-screen adaptation of his fantasy series The Dark Tower had finally found its leading men.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Idris Elba and Mathew McConaughey have been cast. The film will be directed by Nikolaj Arcel and produced by Akiva Goldsman, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. Sony picked up the project following original studio Universal pulling out in 2011.
And in other news, Stephan James has snagged a new role, fresh off of starring the lead in the Jesse Owens biopic, Race.
He has been cast as the male lead in the Fox limited series Shots Fired, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The drama explores the aftermath of racially charged shootings in a small town in Tennessee. Sanaa Lathan stars an expert investigator who digs into the cases alongside a special prosecutor (James) sent to the town by the Department of Justice. The pair must navigate the media attention, public debate and social unrest that comes with such volatile cases as they seek justice before the divided town erupts. [The Hollywood Reporter]
