(EXCLUSIVE) R.Kelly Accused of Screwing Promoter Out of $500k
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports, R. Kelly is accused of screwing a concert promoter out of $500k by refusing to pay back an advance he was paid for a failed concert tour and now the company has headed to federal court demanding the judge order the controversial singer pay up.
Swervo Entertainment Group filed a federal lawsuit against the singer, his company RSK Enterprises and a woman named Linda Mensch in Illinois court.
The lawsuit explains earlier this year, Swervo began negotiating with R. Kelly in which they would be granted the exclusive rights to promote and produce a series of concerts featuring the singer. In exchange he would be paid per concert.
Kelly’s lawyer, Linda Mensch, was representing the singer during the negotiations.
The company paid the singer an advance in the amount of $500,000 for the concerts. The wire was sent to a trust account per Mensch’s instructions.
However, the talks fell through and no agreement was reached despite several meetings and back and forth.
The company demanded the return of the $500k from R. Kelly, but he has refused to send back the advance. They believe Mensch has transferred the funds to the singer and he is in possession of the money.
Swervo Entertainment Group is suing R. Kelly, his lawyer and RSK Enterprises for conversion, fraud, breach of contract and are demanding the return of their $500k plus punitive damages for the harm that has been done to them.
