Dwyane Wade’s Ex Wife Wants Some of His Chicago Bulls Money
Cut the check! If she has it her way, Dwyane Wade’s ex wife, Siohvaughn Funches, is headed to court in hopes of getting a few additional coins from the NBA baller. Wade’s legal battle with his high school sweetheart finally ended with a $5 million-plus settlement back in 2013.
However, Funches wants a judge to throw out her settlement agreement with Wade and give her a larger piece of his basketball earnings. This includes some of the $47 million he’s set to be paid by the Bulls, according to the Chicago Tribune. Reportedly, she’s suing her own former divorce lawyer, Brian Hurst, for malpractice, alleging he agreed to the deal with Wade without her knowledge. The site reports:
And while Judge Martin Agran on Friday tossed her lawsuit, he offered her the chance to file an amended lawsuit — an opportunity her latest lawyer, Thomas Gooch, says she “absolutely” intends to take.
A non-disparagement clause in the settlement prevents both sides from trading further insults about each other and Wade’s second wife, actress Gabrielle Union, but didn’t stop Funches from last year filing a lawsuit against Hurst.
The suit, which does not name Wade as a defendant, claims Hurst “failed miserably” to represent her, required her “to remain out of the conference room where negotiations were taking place” and “informed the court falsely” that Funches had agreed to the deal when she was not aware of all the terms.
Contacted Thursday, Hurst denied he had kept Funches in the dark and said that settlements are agreed upon by both parties so that warring couples “don’t have to take the risk that their legal theories don’t bear fruit.”
Wade married his high school girlfriend Funches in 2002. He filed for a divorce in 2007, which was granted in 2010 after a lengthy and acrimonious court battle. In 2011, Wade was granted sole custody of his two sons with Funches, Zaire Blessing Dwyane Wade (born February 4, 2002) and Zion Malachi Airamis Wade (born May 29, 2007). Wade also raises a nephew, Dahveon (born 2002), who is the son of Wade’s sister Deanna. Wade began dating actress Gabrielle Union in 2009. According to Wade, he and Union briefly split up at some point early in 2013 due to career demands. During that time, Wade and longtime friend Aja Metoyer conceived a son, Xavier Zechariah Wade (born November 10, 2013). Wade and Union became engaged in December 2013, and married on August 30, 2014 in Miami.
