Jay Ellis On His “Insecure” Split w/ Issa Rae: I felt like I was breaking up with her as a person in real life.
Jay Ellis Talks “Insecure” Split w/ Issa Rae
If you’re an avid viewer of HBO’s “Insecure”, chances are you were heart broken when the season ended with Issa Rae and Jay Ellis’ characters breaking up. And as it turns out, Jay was a tad bit sad too. In a recent interview he says,
I felt like I spent so much time getting close to Issa [Rae] and that relationship. And just how close we had become as cast mates, I felt like I was breaking up with her as a person in real life.
Despite their characters having issues in the romance department, Jay has nothing but respect for the real life Issa, the co-creator, star and executive producer of the HBO comedy.
She created the show, she’s writing the show, she’s in the writers room the entire time, and then she’s also producing while she’s on set. When she’s there as an actress, she’s 100 percent present as an actress. And just to see her focus in that is absolutely amazing.
Ellis also shares what he’d like for his character explore on season two.
It’s not something that we get to see, it hasn’t really been talked about on TV a lot, the different stages that we go through. Does he go back? Does he become numb and never have feelings again? Does he go out and look for another girl? I would really like to see what happens with that.
