Aretha Franklin In Tears, Has Detroit Street Sign Named After Her
Congratulations to Aretha Franklin! On Thursday (June 8th), the Queen of Soul had a city street named after her in Detroit. Madison between Witherell and Brush Streets, right outside the Music Hall, has been renamed Aretha Franklin Way.
An emotional Franklin pulled the cover off the sign, revealing the new name at a ceremony in her honor.
Thursday’s public street naming kicks off the inaugural Detroit Music Weekend, a four-day event that will showcase Detroit and its entertainment district.
The legendary singer is also the subject of a tribute concert Friday at Music Hall and is performing a free outdoor concert Saturday.
