Tyler Perry To Portray Colin Powell In Film
Tyler Perry will reportedly play Colin Powell in an upcoming movie about former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney for Annapurna. Perry will costar alongside Christian Bale, who plays Cheney, Amy Adams as his wife Lynne, Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush and Steve Carell as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
The film, is being produced by Annapurna Pictures, Plan B and Gary Sanchez, is in production. The film is untitled, but there are reports that it will be called, “Backseat.”
Powell is an statesman and a retired four-star general in the United States Army. Powell was born in Harlem as the son of Jamaican immigrants. During his military career, Powell also served as National Security Advisor (1987–1989), as Commander of the U.S. Army Forces Command (1989) and as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (1989–1993), holding the latter position during the Persian Gulf War. Powell was the first, and so far the only, African American to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was the 65th United States Secretary of State, serving under U.S. President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, the first African American to serve in that position.
Perry is an actor, comedian, filmmaker, writer, and songwriter, specializing in the gospel genre. He wrote and produced many stage plays during the 1990s and early 2000s. In 2011, Forbes named him the highest paid man in entertainment; he earned US$130 million between May 2010 and 2011. With new shows lined up, along with older successful shows, his net worth in 2017 is estimated to be $600 million.
